So here it came! July 2, 2004 will go down in the history books as being the grand opening of the Fry's Electronics branch in Downer's Grove. On a last minute whim, Frank and I decided to drive down to see what we could get at Fry's. The parking lot was packed around 5:30pm and there was a hell of a crowd there. We circled around the store for about 1 hour checking out what they had. And it seemed like everyone had an ad except us.
Here's what i got:
1) 250gb HD Maxtor $119 -30 rebate
2) 120gb HD WD $99-70 rebate
3) PNY USB 2 Keychain 128 drive $19-5 rebate
4) Netgear 802.11G wireless gateway $55-55 rebate
5) 350watt PS with Serial ATA $25-25 rebate
I realize it will be rebate hell for me, but it was a heck of a good deal.
These are what i was tempted:
1) 50in Mitsubitshi rear projection $1299
2) Some polk floor speakers $199
3) Athlon 64 mb/cpu combo $300
4) Some ram for it 1gb i think it was like $50 after rebate
5) External HD enclosure (out of stock) FREE AFTER REBATE
6) Netgear 802.11G pcmcia card (out of stock) FREE AFTER REBATE
Oh, I think traveling down there every Friday maybe a weekly ritual because I think their ads run thursday to thursday. But then again, Microcenter had great deals during their grand opening and now that store is kinda crappy.
Posted by Patrick at July 2, 2004 11:13 PMthanks for inviting me--OR NOT.
Posted by: ken t. at July 3, 2004 2:57 AMit was amazing...i was amazed
Posted by: frank at July 3, 2004 9:29 AMit seems like we were the only morons without an ad paper...they ran out of ad papers but everyone and their mother had one...
Posted by: frank at July 3, 2004 9:30 AMGreeeeeat! (sigh) **ANOTHER** electronic store to go to!!
Ken... Don't feel bad. Hahah..I wasn't invited to this "special" occasion too!
Posted by: Michelle at July 3, 2004 11:47 AMI can't believe I gave in to my temptation and went to get that special on the comp *gasp*
Posted by: Cecil at July 3, 2004 1:00 PMi'm just mad because i paid $140 for the same 250gb drive! (no rebate, at microcenter, still a good deal, but man...)
Posted by: ken t. at July 3, 2004 2:04 PMCecil which computer did u buY??
Did u buy that 99$ computer???
I bought the $299 one. I admit I didn't do my homework since I bought it last minute... is there a better deal anywhere else you know of?
Oh the Atlon 64 cpu bundle?? did u buy that ram that was on sale too.. The 512mb for #30 after rebate was cosair memory= good stuff. What cpu speed was it?? You have to figure the most of the cost in the bundle is from the cpu. I think its a pretty good bundle and would buy it on PRN basis mainly because i tend to buy, buy, buy. If u did your math right, you probably built an entire CPU system plus monitor really cheap from the fry's sale,
Posted by: patrick at July 4, 2004 1:31 PMwill someone give me an ad paper!!!!!!
Posted by: frank at July 5, 2004 9:44 AMThe one I got was actually the $299 one from the ad, the GQ AMD Athlon 2400 with 128MB memory and 40GB hard drive. The salesperson kept trying to talk me up but I said that this was just gonna be a spare comp in my brother's old room. As of now, it's still in that huge ass box unopened....
