Blu--ray vs HD DVD

Well, I finally got around to buy my very first Blu Ray Movie. Since we didn't watch Superman Returns in the Imax I figured I would at least buy the High Definition movie for my ps3. BTW, the Ps3 is crappy because there is no IR port to support my Harmony Remote, so I had to control it with the stupid Sixaxis controller. That and I cannot fully enjoy the FULL high def potential because of the limiting factor of my television being only 720p/1080i max. Oh well, probably couldn’t tell.

Anyhow, Superman Returns was a real disappointment. From all the hype, I thought it would be a great edition to my collection. Little did I know that the movie was far from a GOOD superhero movie. I liked the fact that they incorporated the movie into the current timeline of Richard Donner Superman movies. Heck, they even resurrected Marlon Brando’s role as Jor-El. The new Superman, Routh, did a good job as the superhero, and an eerie rendition of Christopher Reeve. He sounded like a doppelganger of Reeve and showed nothing new to Clark. I felt that Spacey as Lex Luthor was almost dead on for Gene Hackman too, except with Spacey’s unique type of humor here and there.

I really felt the story lacked any development. Besides all the special effects which made me believe that a man could fly, there was no other forward progress in this story. And I felt it was a complete waste of 3 hours that I will never get back! Anyhow, a waste of TIME!!!

Next in my Blu Ray queue: Ice Age Meltdown and MI-3. Those were just fillers in my Amazon cue so I could qualify for the 10% off, but I hope they look and sound good. I figure Blu-ray may be the winner between the war just because of the higher data capacity and cheaper media (for now) and for the fact that Vivid Video has chosen it for media for Adult movie distribution. Heck, that industry chose VHS over Beta max and look who won!

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the movie. After all, it is a reintroduction to the Man of Steel after so many years away from the big screen. In the next movie, hopefully we'll see development and find out what happens with the boy, with Lois's relationship, and who Supes will fight. Now if the writers don't choose a badass villain for the next film to create some awesome fight sequences and special visual effects, then that will be a total disappointment. Heck, I was even thinking of writing my own script so Hollywood won't screw it up!

It was probably because I had high expectations from this movie. I just wanted to rewatch Superman 2 again to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Why couldnt they just REDO Superman 2 with same script, new actors and CGI effects. I think I would enjoy it. Except for that Saran Wrap Attack from Christopher Reeve's Superman-S. What was with that???

That movie was a huge disappointment. Other than the Superman/Clark Kent character, I thought the movie was poorly casted. Kevin Spacey= great actor, sucky Lex Luthor...Kate Bosworth= hot chick but see really didnt fit that Lois Lane role very well. I find it funny that the WB can cast the characters in Smallville better than their filmmaking counterparts.

Did you hear about the Richard Donner version of Superman II that's supposed to be out? It's supposed to have enough new footage that it's a completely different film. I went looking for it at Best Buy today but couldn't find it...

ohhh. i do see it
available on blu ray. heheh.
be kind of a waste of space.

Yes, Superman Returns was very disappointing. Watching the film in IMAX 3-D was still a blast though. The only annoying thing about that experience was that since the majority of the movie wasn't 3-D we had to keep putting the 3-D glasses on and taking them off. The Richard Donner cut of Superman II might actually be worth having on blu ray. Keep an eye and an ear out for reviews.

"Wasn't there TWO of those dogs???"
