Robots

robots

Animated movies are a dime a dozen nowadays. It is rare these days that a feature is fully hand drawn resulting from the sweat and blood of artists. CGI is amazing; when done right, you get masterpieces like Ice Age and "anything from PIXAR" and ROBOTS. This is the first movie we have seen since The Grudge (and that movie was a dissappointment!). The great thing about Robots is the entire world base it creates. I love it when a movie creates a setting that is both perpetual and continuous in the fact that it creates a world and makes us believe that world exsist with its own set of rules. This concept is similar to the world Toy Story and Monsters Inc. create.

Characters... Let's talk about Robin Williams. Animated or not animated he is a comedian to be reckoned with. However, his time is getting past where not everything he says is funny. In Aladdin, I remember whatever the genie said was funny and he practically took the audience away from the show making us to believe that the movie should actually be called GENIE. This time around he plays a broken down robot named Fender who is the side kick of Rodney (Mcgregor). Fender starts as a side kick and remains a side kick with Williams usual humor and twit, but doesnt take the show away. But I do find William's humor to be aged not as funny as I remembered.

The voice talent is minor. Besides the two for mentioned characters, the movie has Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks, Drew Carey, Amanda Bynes, and I think I saw Jay Leno's name flash across the screen as well.

If you can, try to watch it either on IMAX or a DLP. It just makes the experience more eye catching. I can't wait to get this DVD and test it with my Home theater setup. The story was simple. Robot move out of small town and try to make a big name for himself in the city. He tries to meet a Walt Disney-type character Bagwell to demonstrate his inventions. Simply put, this movie was another success from the creators of Ice Age and makes another mark against the popular Pixar francise that strikes GOLD with every hit they make! Watch out, 20th Century Fox animation is out to get ya: 5 out of 5 stars!
