Since my parents been away on their trip... I been trying to experiment in the kitchen. I guess I never realized how hard it was to cook a meal!! Last week, I tried cooking pork, tofu, bok choy noddle/soup --- and it was a DISASTER! Didn't know was it me or the recipe (A Chinese dish from an American cookbook? Hmm). Then just today .. I tried Sherry's recipe on Chicken Corn Soup --- ANOTHER disaster!! The soup came out way too salty! Maybe soup is just not my thing. Perhaps I shouldn't have deviate too much from the recipe too. Haha. Or maybe I am just not a big fan of corn soup to begin with. Oh well... Definitely no Iron Chef here!!
So what's for dinner tonight??! CONNIE'S PIZZA!!

honey...
i keep telling you that soup is a hard thing to make.. start out simple.. pasta, rice, and anything fried(stir fry, battered wings).. we work on soups and noodle soups later....
besides!! where is my PIZZA??!!?!?!?
*sniff sniff* I tried so hard... =(
Yes u do..
it takes time
you cant get awesome at cooking overnite!
even you said before that it took a long time before your mom became good.
Just keep trying... the other dishes were fine!
it's the effort that counts! hmmm..what kind of chicken broth and creamed corn did you use? I made the soup twice and it came out exactly the same
Sherry -- I don't think it was your recipe. I think it was ME!!
Im STILL WAITING FOR MY PIZZA!
you need to taste the food along the way. or learn from a master. (ha)
american cookbooks are fine. you should check out martin yan's chinese cookbook 'feast.'

cooking is a full-time job!!! its not easy!!!! just think of it like compounding a ointment or a lotion!!!!
lotta trial and error...its kinda like golf!!!!
keep at it until it becomes an obession!!!!
I think this soup isn’t too hard to make. It’s like making a magic mouthwash :-)
Well, I'm not sure how it could come out so salty. 1 and ½ teaspoon of salt in a total volume of 3 cans liquid should be just right. Maybe the broth was bad and extra salty or your measuring spoon is playing tricks on you? I haven’t made it yet but I think I’ll make it to see for myself...
P.S. If it does come out extra salty, then I think my honey will have some explaining to do :-)
Nothing wrong with American cookbook --- but I was thinking more along the line of the recipe not being written by a Chinese chef.
i hate using measuring devices. go with your gut--because that's ultimately where it's ending up!
anyway, i also recommend watching alton brown's show, good eats, on the food network.
In regards to the art of measuring, here's a Bruce Lee quote I really like that sums it up: "Before I practiced the art, a punch was just a punch and a kick was just a kick. After I'd studied the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick no longer a kick. Now that I understand the art, a punch is again just a punch, a kick is just a kick."
HEY,
IM STILL WAITING FOR LEFTOVER PIZZA!!!!
I made the soup for the first time and mine came out too spicy! Sherry and I have changed the measurements, so if you do decide to make it again, it'll be much better :-)
I think I will lay off the soup for a bit. I'm going back to PASTAS! Hehe
