All of us entered this movie with low expectations considering all the hype, none of us thought much of this movie. We left it mildly entertained and could name a lot of other movies we hated more. Now a days, all the hype of a movie puts it on a pedestal so high that when we do watch it, it never meets our expectations. A short list of these are Star Wars 1, Harry Potter 3, and Matrix 2-3. For I, Robot I really ignored all the hype because I knew they would Hollywood-ize this collection of short stories by Issac Asimov.
I’ve read a majority of the stories and I don’t think the author would have pictured Will Smith as a retro-dressing Detective Spooner in this movie that is “suggested by the book.” Yes, in the credits it says the movie was “suggested by the book,” which means that the movie takes certain ideas and concepts from the book. In this case, it took the 3 laws of robotics and the idea of a murdering robot.
The movie was predictable as usual and followed a Jurassic Park motto. Creator build creation, creation gets out of hand, and creation kills all. Simple plot with a few twists which makes the movie satisfying. Will Smith’s acted as usual and proved that even in the future, his character is still cool and black. That and ebonics still lives in 2035!
The CGI involved in the movie was some of the best I’ve seen especially during human-robot interaction. It may be seen almost better than the Gollum was in LOTR. Another thing they did right was the eerie voice of Sonny. It could best be described as a nice version of HAL from Space Oddessy 2000 with the same bone chilling attitude that suggest he could kill you without a thought. The setting of the movie was interesting too because it was based in Chicago 2035. Considering only a 30 year different it suggests that driving is obsolete, Lake Michigan is a landfill, and the police STILL use projective firearms.
Overall, this film did provide me with enough stimuli to keep me watching and waiting for the next thing to blow up. Out of a scale from 1-5, 1 being sucky, I give I, Robot, a 3. Its still no Minority Report or 5th Element. But I’d rather watch it than the snoring I had during AI and Blade Runner.

It will be cool to have these robots as technicians. Haha!
i would have liked it better if the movie wasnt about wil smith's ego. since he exec-produced the movie, he made sure that it was all about him. too bad, if he played the character straight instead of playing the anachronicistic (because it was in the future) angry black man, the movie would've been great. he should take a cue from dezel washington, harrison ford, tom hanks, and even toby macguire. these actors dont have to "over-act" to turn a "simple" script into a "great" movie.
Honestly, i dont think Will Smith could ever act as good as those actors u mentioned...
Other than Denzel... I cant really stand his acting. Its the Agent Mulder from xfiles--- he can talk to himself all the time!
Will Smith is always going to be the SAME KIND of funny guy and I dont think he'll ever be able to break the mold.
