We watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban a few days ago. Fun, but I think the first 2 movies were better. Two problems. Either there was too much story to put into a 2.5 hour movie or the screen play was bad. I think the screen play was bad. It picked poor places for scenes to start and end. The fade-away and fade-in shots were getting annoying and it did not help with the flow of the plot. They used Gary Oldman poorly too. For a great actor, they should have shown him in more shots and made more lines for him. That is another thing, the first 2 movie's dialogue were taken almost verbatim from the book. However, with this one they cut out alot of important dialogue and chopped up some of the speeches that made the story flow better in the book. I know when books become movies, its always for the worst. But I think in this case the first 2 movies were good adaptations-- this one wasnt. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
One other note I'd like to mention. We saw the Spiderman 2 trailer again in the theaters. And its really pissing me off that they are doing this trilogy as a story of Spiderman--- the tragedy. Doesn't everyone remember spiderman as being the witty hero that spins around town, throws sarcasm at villiams, and talks to himself? In the beginning he was a hero brought to be by the loss of his uncle... But tragedy did not follow that closely to this character after this. It did not become "his life" as the movie says. I think they are trying to make another BATMAN out of him. Batman is more this type of character because of his need for vengance while Spiderman is around because he just wants to help. Please Hollywood, don't make him someone else.

Yeah. The movie was a bit disappointing. It really didn't build up a climax or had a great way of keeping the suspense.
Side Note: Hermione is a CUTIE!! =)
i dunno, lindsey lohan takes the cake on that one...
a carrot cake!
pat, i agree with you on potter three, but of the movies, this was a tad bit less dark... here's to hoping that the director pulled a peter jackson and the dvd release will have 2 hours of extra footage.. you need to remember, that most of the kids seeing this film are no longer using diapers so their bladders can't last more than 2.5 hrs :)
i've gotten to a point where i am having mixed feelings with regards to seeing spider-man... granted jms(the daddy of b5) in the comic books is making him become a tragic figure... (he's getting the vigilante treatment, and now his day job is a high school science teacher) but oh well... i'm looking forward to seeing anchorman... i need some slapstick comedy in my movie diet... i did get to see saved, that was hillarious :)
so yeah... i saw _the chronicles of riddick_ this past weekend, i'd have to say that i enjoyed it, and as how it relates to _xxx_, it was a lot less skankier, so if you're looking for skankiness(yes, i live down state, we say skank a lot), you may want to pass on this one and see _new york minute_.
that's about it for me... i have to get back to work now :)

i liked harry potter 3 but i did not have the book to judge it from. its always true that the book is always much than the movie (i.e. the Firm) with the exception of the shawshank redemption.
i agree about the spiderman thing. i think everyone got into this frank miller, dark knight, tim burton, hero with serious issues theme. by having toby macguire as your spidy, u are asking for a peter parker with serious social issues. what happened to the smart ass spiderman in the cartoons? what happens when he go against venom (my favorite bad guy..."im gonna eat your brain!!!")?
POOR MONK BOY
They making spidey a Vigilante?? wow.. I read somewhere that they are making superman darker too. First i heard is that they are making him have more weaknesses.
well... he's not the cop's favorite guy... there's a new marvel series called ultimate where they kinda throw their characters in an alternate setting... kinda like how the x-men movie related to the original x-men in the comic books. the amusing thing is that ultimate spider-man had an arc with the real spider-man dealing with sam raimi making a spider-man starring tobey mcguire :) it was very cute... i have near mint copies going for $10 a peice, any takers? ;)
