Kill Bill Vol. #2

We saw Kill Bill Vol #2 last night. For those who haven’t seen vol 1, go rent it. For those who have seen this and are dying to see the ending of this series you wont be disappointed. Uma Thurman returns as her role as the bride who is to revenge a failed attempt to her life which left her in a coma. The action is great, but the one thing I love about Quentin Tarentino films is the dialogue. Yes his scenes are drawn out just a bit long, the music corny, and the acting at times a bit melodramatic, but the characters are unforgettable because of their simple yet witty personalities. Even though I hate David Carradine, I wasn’t able to dislike his acting during a scene where his character analyzed the dual-life of Superman and Clark Kent during a prologue of a fight scene. This is the beauty of QT’s vision and writing.

Then again, that’s probably why he can’t do too many movies. We will get numbed of this style sooner or later. I am already bored of his style of flashbacks and flash-forwards which was introduced in Pulp fiction. And I see his style of story telling getting out dated quickly similar to the hits of M. Night Shyamalan (Signs, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable). We love Shaymalan’s hits too, but we will eventually get sick of his story telling, and realize that his movies will all be about characters who don’t believe in ghost, aliens and superheros because they are fiction. Then the fiction becomes reality.

Anyways, the movie was good/ok. Out of a 1-5 scale I would probably give it a 3. I would probably give it a higher rating if the movie were condensed somehow to one film. The choice for splitting it among 2 vols is something I don’t agree on because it makes you spend 2x the money on 1 film. And I think that by doing this you turn away a lot of 1st time QT viewers. It was nothing too spectacular and nothing too boring about this movie. Revenge seemed easier in this volume compared to the 1st volume as it seemed to be easier to kill Daryl Hannah (who is the #1 killer) than it was to kill Lucy Lui.

Sometimes I like to watch movies 2x in theaters. This time it wouldn’t be the case. Oh well, until next time!!

Heya Patrick. Just wanted to say i agree with your Kill Bill review. However, I promote Quentin's decision to break the movie in two. Having 4 hours homage to the 70's pic would be too much. Especially if you notice that the two movies have totally different styles and atmosphere. While the first Kill Bill had more of an asian, 70's kung-fu feel to it, the second felt more like a spaghetti western. Ending the first volume with the climatic shodown at the house of blue leaves was great and would be awkward to have it not be the end. Plus, the reason why it was more difficult to kill Oren was because she had to hack and slash her way through approximately 50 of her guards. Granted they were mainly a bunch of young quack jokers pretending to be assasins, but still. I'd be tired to.

i think this vol still tried to make it an asian-movie.
esp having that bit about that chinese master dude in it and all that training. No western wants to know how the hero learned to shoot a gun.

if it were trying to be a western, they should have had a one on one show-down clint eastwood-style. i dont think he was trying to do this. i agree on the atmosphere style. But then again. this movie wasnt in japan which was the basis of the first movie.
